MY REFLECTION ON REUBEN WIKI
A QUICK REFLECION ON REUBEN WIKI
For years all i ever did was walk around this place with my mates. We knew all the streets, all the paths, all the shortcuts, and all the places to stay away from. Some people don’t feel safe coming here, certainly not walking on the streets, and i can understand......those are a few words from a chapter called “the hood” in a biography called Reuben wiki.
Who tells the story of his life back in the days when he was staying in a place called Otara a.k.a “the hood” in his words. And also tells us why others don’t come to Otara, and from what i’v herd it’s not that much of a bad place. I should know i was bought up and raised in Otara from 1990 onwards.
Things have changed big time since then but its not all too bad, i mean just because your from Otara doesn’t mean you can’t be a successful person....look at reuben wiki he grew up in this area and became a successful rugby league player for the Vodafone warriors.
NOW MOST PEOPLE KNOW THAT OTARA IS THE HEART OF MANUKAU CITY OR SOUTH AUCKLAND, A PLACE SOME PEOPLE FEAR BUT A PLACE I LOVE. THERE’S SOMETHING ABOUT HOME, ABOUT THE PLACE WHERE YOU’VE BEEN BOUGHT UP, THAT KEEPS BRINGING YOU BACK THERE,EVEN IF IT’S JUST NOW OR THEN. I KNOW THATS NOT TRUE OF EVERYONE.
THAT WAS MORE WORDS THAT REUBEN WIKI HAD PUBLISHED INTO HIS BOOK, NOW HE HAS INSPIRED ME AND IM SURE A FEW OTHER PEOPLE FROM OTARA TO ACHIEVE THERE GOALS EVEN IF THERE FROM A PLACE WHERE PEOPLE DON’T THINK MUCH OF THESE DAYS...BUT HE SURE HAS FOR ME KNOWING ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE NO MATTER WHERE YOUR FROM AND IF YOU PUT YOUR MIND TO IT

WHAT IT WAS LIKE PRESENTING A WORKSHOP
On Wednesday 19th March I joined my mentor in presenting a workshop to families, teachers & children on photo story 3 and this is what it was like for me.
Well being my first time, and with the experience I had it was exiting. I enjoyed the whole night teaching parents how to create photo story's of there kids at there centre.
I was very confident through the whole thing...except when I had minor problems which i had help with from my mentor Naketa.
But overall it was a good experience for me and I learnt from my mistakes.....so hopefully it won't happen next time.
And I'd like to thank my mentor for giving me this awesome opportunity in teaching families, teachers & children

OTARA DEFYING THE ODDS
On Wednesday 19th March we visited the Manukau Research Library and watched the award winning documentary Otara: Defying The Odds
What did the movie make me realize?
It made me realize that these days children are lucky to have things easier than what our parents had in there days.
What might I do now in life to maximize my potential?
Continue with Triple XL, complete my goals, which are:
• To complete my 6 month project
• Go to America…..what for?
To check out D.U.S.T.Y(DustyUndergroundStoryTellingYouth)
And to help out Naketa in her workshops

WHAT I HAVE LEARNT SO FAR ABOUT TRIPLE XL TECHNOLOGY
Well before i even herd of Triple XL Technology, i didn't know much about computers as i do now. Being with Triple XL Technology and learning from our mentour had been a mean experience for both me and my younger sister. We learnt so much, like creating a google account, also creating a blog, makin little movies of our own using a laptop, learning the diffrence between a MAC and PC and only yesterday we got taught how to create photo stories which i really enjoyed learning. And that's my experience with Triple XL Technology and what i have learnt so far...
